The Sun goes through an 11-year cycle of magnetic activity. This page tracks today's solar flares, sunspot regions, and X-ray flux from NOAA SWPC, plus live imagery from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. Flares are graded A → B → C → M → X — each step ten times brighter than the last.

What this means
A CME is a billion-ton burst of magnetized plasma launched from the Sun's corona. Speed drives Earth-impact severity: ≥1000 km/s can trigger strong geomagnetic storms 1–3 days later. "Type" follows DONKI's classification (S → C → O → R, slow to extremely-fast). Halo-like half-angles facing Earth are the highest-risk events.
